Professor Art Rivas has been competing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and training mixed martial arts for a total of 12 years. He was born and raised in Southern California, where he gained his love for mixed martial arts.

Professor Art has competed in both IBJJF(International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation) tournaments and professional MMA. Having a pro record of 5-1 and two time 3rd place medalist at IBJJf (International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation) Also, medalling in the pan american games and north american abu dhabi trials.

His knowledge of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai and classic boxing has gained him success as a martial arts instructor. Professor Art has trained under UFC Heavyweight Champion Bas Rutten’s Elite MMA and he received his black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under Rodrigo Carvalho, with team Akxe BJJ in southern California. Professor Art began training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, with 3rd degree black belt, Ed Keller, who trained under well known Master Joe Moreira.

After the passing of his instructor Ed Keller, he began his journey training under Fabio Leopoldo, Raul Montolfo and Rodrigo Antunes. Professor Arts passion for mixed martial arts and jiu jitsu led him to instruct and spread his knowledge. Under the influence of high level instructors, Art began his teaching career. Coaching both professional and amateur mixed martial artists, Art enjoys and loves the evolution of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and what it has become today. BrazilianJiu jitsu and submission grappling are Arts focal points. With a good wrestling base, he has been able to expand and shape his Jiu Jitsu in all aspects.

The knowledge of the sport continues to grow. Learning and exchanging new techniques and concepts is what transforms the art into a beauty. Professor Arts goal is to continue to spread his love for the "gentle art"of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
