Urban Combat is a principle based combat system founded by Self Defense expert Donavin Britt. Urban Combat is not a new style but rather an evolution of reality based training. Urban Combat places an emphasis on survival by any means necessary.
There is a difference between sport based training and reality based training. Most systems do not address the complexities of a violent attack. Tournament and the ring fighting are not accurate interpretations of the harsh realities of fighting for one’s own life. Urban Combat exists for one reason only, survival.
Urban Combat is a modern system that is based on sound principles not fluffy techniques that are either not realistic or so tactically impractical that they place the student in more danger. Urban Combat student are trained in the “Science of Violence”. An emphasis on understanding the difference between fighting and self-defense is one of the most critical lessons that each student will learn. Additionally students are taught various self-defense tactics and then asked to perform them under duress. Combat Speed is a concept this is unique to Urban Combat. In order for any technique to be validated as viable for any student. The technique must be tested at full speed vs. a live attacker . Additionally the smallest student must be able to perform the technique against the largest student in the room, while the attacker is not cooperating with the defender. The attacker will not cooperate with the defender . He will not attack in an orthodox manner and that is exactly the point.
Urban Combat covers all ranges of self-defense, fighting, edged weapons and firearms defense. The curriculum also sets itself apart by requiring students to become proficient in operating various types of weapons such as knives, firearms, sticks and improvised weapons. Urban Combat’s purpose is to prepare each practitioner for the worst day of their lives!
